Screenwriting for Young Writers

Do you want to write for the big screen? In this course, David Grant, will provide students the principles of storytelling, screenplay structure, and dialogue. Throughout the course, students will construct their own scripts.

Black Diaspora Literacy and the Chocolate City

This course hopes to honor D.C. Black identity by analyzing Black literature—novels, short stories, and poetry—set in the nation’s capital.  We will read contemporary poets and authors such as Marita Golden and Edward P. Jones. Through their writing, I hope we will experience The District in a new light.

Readers Circle for Teens

This course focuses on literature via class discussions. Books will be chosen by the instructor and students, and weekly reading assignments will be given. During the weekly meetings, we will analyze, discuss, project, and dissect what has been read in a safe and relaxed environment.

Bringing Everyday Objects to Life

In this course, students will learn how to make a miniature studio, use everyday objects to create modifiers for lighting, and reflectors.  We’ll be using these for most or all of the projects (two will not be using the miniature studio).  We’ll use apples as the theme for this class in six different projects.

Beginning Spanish

In Beginning Spanish, students will learn the 5 fundamentals of speaking a new language: pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. They will have new concepts to study and practice during the week, learn the basics of simple verb conjugations, begin to gather vocabulary, and learn how to read, write and a carry on a simple conversation in Spanish

Culture Map

In this course we will read five books from five different areas of the world. Each class will consist of deep discussion about different aspects of the book and how it relates to the society, culture, and life of each one of us. The objective of this course is to find common ground between many different cultures and geographical locations and to understand, make connections, and broaden perspectives with relation to cultures and peoples.
